Video Games = Fitness?

Hi everyone,

This past holiday weekend while visiting family I got into a conversation about any benefits of the new type of video games out on the market that get kids up and moving like Wii Sports and Dance Dance Revolution. As a sports enthusiast, I can hardly imagine how these video games could replace outside play and/or participating in sports as a child. I decided to see if there was any research on the subject. Scientists at the University of Michigan agree with me. Yes, you burn calories when you play the games but first it depends on the level of activity of the game and second, it still doesn't add up to the number you burn with traditional exercise. I do however believe that it is a better and more productive option than traditional video games or plain old watching tv. Check out the link below for the whole story.
