Hi Everyone, I am sorry that I have not posted in a while. I have been so busy this spring with teaching clients, workshops, certifications and travel. When I am this busy, I have to really stay focused on having healthy snacks readily available. One health rule I live by is: never full, never hungry and so I have decided to share with you some of the healthy snacks I rely on to stay energized through out the busy day. |

I am continually shocked by how many clients, friends and family are surprised when I tell them how much stress plays a factor in their wellness. I put managing stress at the top of the list, right in line with nutrition and exercise. Medical researchers are not exactly sure how stress increases the risk of heart disease. Stress itself maybe the factor, or it could be high levels of stress cause blood pressure to increase, overeating, sleep and exercise aversion and continued smoking habits. If stress itself is a risk factor, |

Hi everyone, This past holiday weekend while visiting family I got into a conversation about any benefits of the new type of video games out on the market that get kids up and moving like Wii Sports and Dance Dance Revolution. As a sports enthusiast, I can hardly imagine how these video games could replace outside play and/or participating in sports as a child. I decided to see if there was any research on the subject. Scientists at the University of Michigan agree with me. Yes, you burn calories when you play the games but first it depends on the level of activity of the game and second, it still doesn't add up to the number you burn with traditional exercise. I do however believe that it is a better and more productive option than traditional video games or plain old watching tv. Check out the link below for the whole story. Happy & Healthy Jumping! Core Strength in 5 minutes/day |
|
Hi everyone, We have a tendency to think that movement starts from the limbs. Movement, however, starts from the very center of our body: the core. If you lack core strength, specifically abdominal strength and hip/shoulder stability, the energy of your movement patterns becomes distorted and the body compensates. This compensation tends to travel down to the knees and to the lower back, which over time may cause degenerative problems. Here are some simple exercises that can be done to develop core strength. |

Hi everyone, I am a huge fan of the fast food restaurant, Chipotle. I love the freshness of the food and can not get enough of the chips and guacamole - yummy! I typically go in and choose what I believe to be healthy options. My favorite "healthy option" is the burrito bol filled with rice, black beans, chicken and tomato and corn salsa. Notice that there is no chips, no guacamole, no sour cream, no cheese and certainly no added dressing. This meal is full of flavor even with out the favorite additions. Then I took a look on www.chipotlefan.com to get a calorie count on my "healthy option." Drum roll please.... 730 calories 23 grams of fat and 15 gram of fiber (all the beans). If this is the healthy option, I can not even imagine what the fully loaded burrito or salad has. Now, don't get me wrong. Just because the calories and fat are high does not mean I have to pass on one of my favorite places to eat because it is all about MODERATION! If I exercise, eat healthy meals and snacks then this chipotle meal is just fine, especially if I eat only 2/3rds of the portion, which is plenty enough for me. Another great site for on the go calorie counting is www.chowbaby.com and www.calorieking.com Healthy & Happiness, Tressa |
