The Big 4-0!
On Sunday June 7th, I turned 40 years old! Happy belated birthday to me! LOL - I can’t believe I just turned 40 last weekend! Where did all the time go? It’s hard for me to think that there are 40 years worth of wear and tear on my body and mind. I can’t say that I’m actually Aging Backwards, but I feel better than I have in years.

As you all know, I was well over 300 lbs. at one point in my life. Since then I have taken back control of my weight, but I am still under construction. Actually, wouldn’t that be de-construction? I guess it would. Last weekend was a microcosm of my life in a quick 48 hours. I would like to share it with you in this post, and would love to hear how you celebrated a milestone birthday or event. I look forward to your comments, so feel free to write back.

I had a great birthday weekend! On Saturday we went bike riding and bird watching at the Manasquan Reservoir. The kids had a blast, as the bird watching tour was by boat. We actually had the opportunity to see a Bald Eagle catch and fly off with a fish, as well as several other fish-catching birds in action, as we floated by boat across the reservoir. We enjoyed the trails on our bike ride and had a wonderful picnic lunch. It was a perfect afternoon with the family. We followed that up by catching a movie and calling it a day.  The following morning we had a healthy breakfast and another bike ride, this time accompanied by our two dogs. Typical 40-year-old, married, father of two adorable children type stuff…

That afternoon however, I was enjoying the outdoors in a different fashion at Hot 97’s Summer Jam Concert at Giants Stadium. I had an outstanding time with a couple of my high school friends watching acts like Mary J. Blige, T-Pain, Jadakiss and Jay-Z (and I Twittered the entire time!). Not your typical 40-something’s scene, but fun nonetheless.  My nephew was celebrating his 18th Birthday by attending his first Summer Jam with a group of his friends, and it felt like I was passing the torch to the next generation. All in all it was wonderful weekend with family and friends. It brings me back to my first Summer Jam or even further back to the old Budweiser SuperFest Days. Wow – now I am really showing my age!

I did the extra little things during the week leading up to my birthday to allow a couple of “cheat days”, but I was actually pretty good and lost three pounds during my birthday week.  I am weighing in at 232 right now – just seven pounds shy of my goal weight!  With the new workout schedule I have planned, that shouldn’t take too long.  I have to side with Jay-Z now and say that 40 is the new 30.

I’m not back to my ideal weight, but I have wiped out the weight I gained during my thirties. Getting back to my college weight may be a little tough. Getting under 200 lbs. may be rough, but that will be my next goal. Who says you can’t turn back the hands of time??  Watch out Jackie, here I come!

It seems hard to believe that 40 years have past in my life. Here’s to at least 40 more!!  Let me know what you did for your 40th birthday! I know Brad recently celebrated his, so maybe he’ll share his day with us.
