May-day, May-day!
Well, here we are at the beginning of another month. It’s May now and the warm weather really starts to kick in, at least it does in my neck of the woods! That means the lazy days of summer are fast approaching. We do not have to fall victim to the “lazy” part of the season, but many people often do. May is Exercise is Medicine Month, so get out there and get more active! There is no more time to procrastinate before summer begins - it is right around the corner.

This is the time for taking long walks, riding your bike, running a 5K, or having a healthy picnic in the park playing with family and friends. It will soon be time for loooong days at the beach - are you ready for that? All day on the beach in your bathing suit in front of all those people - sounds scary, doesn’t it?  Especially, if you have been slacking off a little recently on your fitness.

How we spend our time during the spring and summer months is often predicated by what we did during the colder months of the year, so I hope we have kept up with our resolutions and goals. If not, now is the time to reach out for some help. We all need a lifeline from time to time, so do not be afraid to ask for help. Send out an S.O.S or may-day right now.

Here are a few things you can do to get back on track. Take this time to find a workout or walking/jogging partner. A friend or family member would make an ideal walking or workout partner, but you can also join a local or online walking club to find other like minded individuals to share your experiences with. Or, you can bite the bullet and join the local gym and/or work with a personal trainer. The choice is yours, but you need to make it soon. I know it is tough for some of us to “just do it”, but that is exactly what must be done. Roll up your sleeves and get to work on getting in shape for the summer.  Spring is here and time is running out.

This is where I find the internet and social networking sites to be a big help. By visiting sites like JumpSnapNation.com you have access to numerous health and wellness experts as well as recipes, workouts and an online forum where you can ask questions and get answers. There are numerous groups dedicated to fitness and healthy living on almost all of the major social networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn.

You can go online and look around for a group to join or even better you can find some of your old friends online and agree to share tips, recipes and encouragement with each other. Twitter also provides you with the opportunity to follow like minded individuals and get tips on healthy living and exercising. It helps to know that someone else is in the struggle with you, so remember that you are not in this alone. Nearly 70% of Americans are overweight, so you have plenty of company.

Remember to get out there and be more active this month!
