Fitness Finds
No real theme today.  I am just going to bounce around with some of the different “things” in my head. Sorry for the “downer” last week. Things are a bit better. “In each life a little rain must fall” right?  My dad used to tell me that all the time.  I am going to go out next week to spend a few days with my good friend and his kids. Hopefully, I will be a good distraction.

Few things that I like that are out on the fitness market now. Check them out online.

  1. P90X: Very solid program on DVD.  Not for the faint of heart and requires a bit of equipment, but good all around.
  2. Train360: See www.thehoneyline.com and click on “Train360.”  Great daily workouts for free.  Very little equipment.  Full disclosure—I wrote the workouts and am in the little video clips with Gabby.
  3. Perfect Pushup: Equipment--Two simple handles that give you a good workout with pushing/core muscles.  Make sure you add some “pulling” exercises to balance out all that pushing.  Suggest you get a band or some dumbbells and do some rowing type movements.
  4. TRX: Equipment/program—little pricey but a good system. Good for travel.
  5. And of course, don’t forget about JUMPSNAP! Good all-around workouts for any level.
After my 508 mile race last October I was quite burnt out on cycling. I pretty much took the winter off, not looking at a bike.  Recently though, I have been getting back into the cycling thing. I really love the workouts and how I feel when I am riding fast and hard. I wanted to suggest a good workout for you to try.   I call it the “HOUR OF POWER.”  Find any bike that gives a watts (or power) reading. My stationary bikes do this.  Set your level so you can spin at 85-90 RPM’s and hold your weight in watts. So, if you weigh 150 lbs then you should try to hold 150 watts.  Adjust the level so you are pushing hard enough on the pedals to maintain the watts but not so much that you cannot maintain a decent cadence (85-90 RPM range). Work up to 20 minutes, then adds 10 minutes every other week.  Goal is to spin for 1 hour, holding your weight in watts and maintain the proper cadence. If you need some more motivation, check out the Tour de France on ‘Versus’ (TV), or online. Those guys are coming out of the Pyrenees Mountains. In a few days they will hit the Alps where the race will really come into being. A great battle is forming among the top five contenders.

Be great!
