QUESTION: Why do I always feel bloated after eating?
ANSWER: Digestive issues are very common. In fact, antacid drugs are consistently the most prescribed drugs on the market. Whether your issue is acid reflux or gas and abdominal bloating, these are typically symptoms of digestive disorders that can inhibit your body’s ability to absorb key nutrients from the food you eat and can even promote more degenerative conditions. In fact, digestive issues are linked to arthritis, skin disorders, hormonal imbalances, obesity, and even cancer. And the problem with relying on antacids as a long-term solution is that they actually exacerbate the underlying cause of the problem. There are many factors that contribute to digestive issues including dehydration, eating too many over-processed foods, and more significantly, poor stress management. So here are some simple steps to take to eliminate or at least minimize digestive issues: - Stay hydrated – drink at least ½ ounce per pound of body weight of water per day, mostly between meals.
- Minimize or eliminate over-processed foods like breads, pastas, crackers, etc.

Dudes, Fellas, Bros, Dads of all shapes and sizes, the time is now and the task is ours. This is your mission if you choose to accept it - Lose the Gut! Every once in awhile it's nice to get a lay up with no defenders in your way. Sure you'll play hours upon hours sweating your ass off before that actually happens but when it does, it sure feels good. OK, let's be honest, the basketball analogy is purely for March Madness as this 5' 8" dad has zero game. In fact, in 7th grade when it was winter sports selection time, I chose wrestling if that gives you any indication of my hoops ability.
Back to the task at hand. I've been writing for almost 3 years now and haven't received the heartfelt responses like I did following last week's post targeting dads trying to lose their gut. Based on the comments received, it was likely the most rewarding post I've ever done. It tells me that there is clearly an audience out there that thinks the way I do and would do anything for their kids yet have failed to start by looking in the mirror. I personally want to thank everyone, affected dads and concerned moms alike, for sharing their thoughts. A special shout out to my friend Toby who used the post as motivation to head back to the gym after months of telling himself he would. Brilliant news! Don't worry Toby, we do not need to hide the wings for the Masters party - this is real weight loss for real guys who embark on real lives. Perhaps logging an extra 10 minutes of cardio every day for the two weeks leading up to the party wouldn't be a bad idea. |

With osteoporosis an increasing concern among women of all ages, a recent report in the medical journal Osteoporosis International found that women taking AdvaCAL calcium supplements had the highest bone density increase among 32 different calcium studies conducted between 1977 and 2008. The 32 studies involved 3,169 postmenopausal women, 79 skeletal measures and 7 different types of calcium, including dairy.
The report, entitled The Effect of Calcium Supplementation on Bone Loss in 32 Controlled Trials in Postmenopausal Women, was authored by calcium researcher Christopher Nordin, M.D. of Australia. Nordin concluded that calcium intake prevented bone loss in postmenopausal women for at least four years. Results from the 32 studies showed a wide range of bone density changes from taking different types of calcium.
