I saw an article yesterday that was plastered all over the media discussing Oprah's weight. As a topic, this isn't overly newsworthy since Oprah's weight fluctuation has been well documented over the years. She clearly admires and appreciates healthy living but readily admits her actions don't always reflect her intentions.
The article and relative sound bites are taken from an upcoming interview that will hit news stands next month for her O Magazine. The thing that struck me about her quotes was her level of honesty. She made no excuses, didn't blame anyone else, didn't blame her thyroid condition, didn't blame her demanding schedule or anything else for that matter. She stood up and told the truth that in her words "she's fallen off the wagon". This may sound insignificant but I would argue it's the exact opposite.
She is putting herself on notice in a public forum both acknowledging that she's simply not exercising and eating properly, thus causing the weight gain. I imagine there must be some level of relief with her acknowledgment but more importantly, it clears the way for her to get back to basics and practice what she believes in. Neither money, power nor influence can buy a healthy body. You control what enters your mouth and the number of times per week you exercise and that is the only solution for healthy living. Of all the inspiring stories Oprah has brought forth to the public, this just might be one of the most valuable ones of her career, and she probably doesn't even realize it. If someone as public as Oprah can be this honest, certainly the rest of us can be too. Are you being honest about your healthy living goals? Healthy Jumping...
