Happy Fall!

There is a saying I recently heard about environmentalism that can be applied to health and fitness. It goes something like this, “The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago, and the second best time to plant a tree is today.” It is not yet January of 2010 when many of us will set new fitness resolutions. It is fall of 2009 and with only three months left of 2009, now is an ideal time to set and achieve a 12 –week health & fitness goal. Imagine not having any health or fitness resolution to write down on January 1st, 2010. Imagine that you achieve real goals over the next three months that propel you into 2010 with momentum to set new fitness goals. By creating a strategic goal and committing to it you will be free of the New Year's resolution to get in shape.

Set a SMART goal and start today:

Specific: What is your health & fitness goal? Example: Lose 15 lbs and exercise 4 times per week

Measurable: Track weight weekly. Keep exercise journal.

Attainable: I am able to workout, eat healthy and stretch daily.

Realistic: Good odds of achieving your goal. 15 lbs. is a realistic amount of weight to lose.

Timely: 12-weeks to accomplish my goal. Be sure you take a moment to think about your 12 Week Goal

This is a great opportunity to pause and reflect on the following:

•    What is getting in the way of you achieving your goal?
•    What resource(s) do you need to ensure that you achieve your goal?
•    What is your level of commitment to your goal?

Set Daily and Weekly Goals

Weekly Goals:
A weekly goal can help you to stay on track and provide feedback on how you are doing. If you are already achieving the results you want, you can continue doing what you have been. If your results aren’t what you expected, you can adjust what you have been doing and get back on track.

Daily Goals:
To reach your ultimate goal or even your 12 Week Goal, you need to maintain and develop more healthy habits and work on them repeatedly until they come naturally. Write out a  ‘to-do’ list of the habits you want to develop.

Decide that this is what you really want, and recommit! Know that sticking to your goal means that when you get knocked off course, you have the faith and persistence in yourself to self-correct, and get back
on course. Even when it is challenging, know that YOU CAN DO IT!

You don’t have to wait for a new year, when a new you can start now!

I Love Ashley!!!
written by John Henry Canavan, October 05, 2009
This girl knows where of she speaks and I was once a shining example of it! But I forgot again, fell off again, and returned to the life of the mindless and my body has paid the price AGAIN.
If she'll have me I would gladly return to the Ashley Marriot, world of living consciously, I know it did my body & my mind a great service. Just because I fell down and then got too fat to get back up again (LOL) doesn't mean I can't admit my mistakes and do better this time.
