I saw these sprouted corn tortillas on a healthy cooking show. I was confused as to why “sprouted” was so much better then regular corn tortillas. Through my own research I found that sprouted is (of course) less processed and allows your body to absorb more minerals and vitamins. The “over processed” foods of today are robbed of some of the natural vitamins. They are however fortified. This is what one of the most prominent brands has to say about their Sprouted foods - it’s pretty interesting stuff:
"The process of germination changes the composition of grain and seeds in numerous ways. Sprouting increases vitamin content. Sprouting neutralizes phytic acid – a substance present in grains – that inhibits absorption of nutrients and more important Sprouting neutralizes or “pre-digests” if you will, grains through enzymatic activity. The enzymes produced during our natural sprouting process “in effect” breaks down amino acid protein bonds to promote digestibility of the entire grain."

New York Says Bye-Bye to Sodium! |
|
New York has always seemed to lead the world in everything. From fashion, to design, and now, to health. They were the first to ban artificial trans fats. Next they implemented nutrition facts on their food. Now, they are lowering the sodium of packaged foods and restaurant chain foods.
Over the next 5 years, New York will work to lower their sodium contents by 20% . However, as we well know, most foods aren’t always made where they are consumed so this will begin to change the nation. This change in sodium consumption would likely cut the risk of health problems such as heart attack, and stroke. As with all changes in lifestyle, they all happen one “baby step” at a time. These small changes over time have the ability to make America a better place if people accept the change and use the information for a healthier lifestyle. |
We’ve been warned about obesity, diabetes, heart disease, drugs, drinking, and smoking; but no one ever warned us of the affects of sitting! Preliminary research is now showing that sitting sends deadly signals to your body, shutting down genes that regulate body fat and glucose levels.
If you think you're saved by your daily routine at the gym, think again! This study claims that even people who workout regularly can still be at risk based on their sitting habits. To counter act the sitting, professionals say that people who have seated occupations would actually benefit more if they spread their physical activity through out the day.
This research was preformed in Canada on 17,000 people who all had sedentary occupations and the result their health over 12 years.
